The Making of Lucifer
Music videos are a crucial part of the music industry, they help artists showcase their talent to a broader audience. The making of a music video involves a lot of creativity and collaboration between various professionals. In this post, we’re taking a quick look at the making of the music video for "Lucifer" by Charlotte Branson.
The "Lucifer" music video was shot in two studios in Sheffield, namely the Industry Studio and The Kurious. Industry Studios set up by Si Gamble, a Sheffield-based DOP is a popular studio in Sheffield for Film and Photography work. It was a no-brainer to shoot there! On the other hand, the events space at the Kurious is a unique space that provides a creative environment for events and productions. In our case, we required a long dark room, and their events space was the first location that popped into our heads. Both locations offer an array of creative possibilities, making them an ideal choice for the production of a music video. They’re both also very indie-friendly!
We shot the music video in a single day, which is a testament to the efficiency and professionalism of the crew. The director and producer of the music video, Damian Palli, was responsible for bringing Charlotte Branson's vision to life.
One of the most critical aspects of any music video is the cinematography. The Director of Photography (DOP), Michael Suszczenia, was responsible for capturing the visual elements of the video. Suszczenia's keen eye and attention to detail helped to create stunning visuals that complemented the music perfectly especially thanks to his previous experience as a Gaffer in films and previous music videos. Michael and Damian had worked previously on films like Francois as well as music videos like Juicy and Clickbait.
The "Lucifer" music video is a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity. The crew worked together seamlessly to bring Charlotte Branson's vision to life. The result is a visually stunning and emotionally charged music video that captures the essence of the song perfectly.
We did run into an issue mid-shoot where the Fire Alarm at the location was set off due to the Haze Machine. It did mean that we had to cut shots out and adapt to the situation but thankfully the contributors and crew all took control of the situation and pushed through.
In conclusion, the making of a music video is a complex process that requires a lot of creativity and collaboration. The "Lucifer" music video is a perfect example of what can be achieved when a talented team of professionals works together towards a common goal. With the right location, director, DOP, and crew, any artist can create a music video that will captivate and inspire their audience.
